Cafe Sotong

Café Sotong

Do you want a delicious cup of coffee?

Do you want to study Korean? Or French? Or Japanese?

Why not do both at the same time?

Located in Yongho-dong close to Garosoo-gil is Café Sotong or conversation café. As you descend the stairs and push open the door, you will be greeted by Yuri – the owner, barista, teacher, and animal lover. As you glance around the café you will see various photos of animals, a nice selection of board games, a small multi-lingual book selection, and a display of local handmade crafts available for purchase. As you walk up to the counter to order your tasty beverage, you’ll be able to choose from options such as a vanilla latte (made with real vanilla beans), a molasses latte (sweetened with sugar cane), a royal milk tea (one that uses real loose leaf tea), Canadian hot chocolate (a combination of milk, cocoa, and maple syrup), and if you want to try something new, oat milk (milk made from oats). If you have selected a coffee or coffee-based beverage, Yuri will brew your coffee in a moka pot. The moka pot, originally from Italy, is a coffee maker that produces coffee by passing boiling water pressurized by steam through the ground coffee. The result is a stronger than drip brewed but not as concentrated as espresso flavored coffee. If you have selected from the coaching menu (coffee/tea + private lesson/conversation class), you will then be able to enjoy 30 minutes of a lesson or conversation class with Yuri.

Fun Facts

Yuri opened Café Sotong to promote active communication in multiple languages. She has also incorporated her love of animals and actively promotes their protection through pamphlets placed around her café and through a donation box. In addition, she donates 10% of the whole income of the café to the Animal Protection Association in South Korea.

After your first visit, please make an appointment for your next coaching session. At this time, your best options are on Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday.

Yuri also takes care of the resident cat at Café Hau.

If you have dinner at Todos, the nearby New Mexican restaurant, and bring your receipt to Café Sotong, you will receive a 10% discount.
